The Good Neighbor Program

GICF is seeking child sponsorships and general donations to fund Lulwanda Children's Home operations, projects and future expansions. Your generous support will help GICF assist the children of AIDS-stricken Uganda.

Operating Costs:
GICF needs to cover ongoing operating costs at Lulwanda Children's Home, as it continues to grow. Your tax-deductible donation will ensure that we can continue to provide a loving home and excellent care to the 110 children presently at Lulwanda.

Projects:
There are a number of opportunities for you to fund or contribute towards specific projects or equipment purchases. A donation designated for one of these projects (or a portion of one) would make a huge improvement to the long term future of Lulwanda:

  • Resurfacing of the highly popular basketball court, which currently has a damaged and rough surface; estimated at $850.

  • Purchase of textbooks newly required by the Ugandan Ministry of Education curriculum for the 4th grade; $1550.

  • Purchase a used Coaster 24 passenger bus for transporting staff as well as community children attending Lulwanda Primary School. Transportation has become a significant problem for us as we have grown. Utilization of the 12 passenger van we already own has been pushed to the limit, and we are frequently carrying far more passengers than it is designed for. Purchase of a Coaster bus will alleviate the crowding and scheduling problems. The total cost of a used bus including new tires and other requirements is estimated at $35,000. • Construction of a new building providing storage space, a few small offices, and an indoor play area for the children. This unique building will be constructed utilizing 3 sea freight containers currently sitting at Lulwanda, including erection of a roof over the 3 containers. This project is still under evaluation but estimated to cost $15,000.

  • Build a second "hostel" to house 20 boys. This will allow us to expand from 110 children to a total of 130. The cost for the building is estimated at $60,000.

You may donate by mailing us a check (see Contact Us for address) or donate online using a secure server.

Funds given to GICF will be directly used to benefit the children through the operation of LCH, as GICF has no paid staff outside of Uganda. Approximately 97% of GICF 2010 funding went to Lulwanda, and about 3% to administration and fundraising expenses in the USA. All donations are tax-deductible in the USA and tax receipts are issued annually.
