About Executive Service Corps of Houston
The Executive Service Corps of Houston (ESCH), a 501 c-3 nonprofit, was formed in 1984 by a small group of retired corporate executives who believed they could effectively serve their community by using their business experience to help strengthen nonprofit organizations. Its mission is “to promote best management practices within the nonprofit sector.”
ESCH is one of thirty-one affiliate ESC offices nationwide—each functioning as a completely autonomous and independent organization with its own board of directors, members, budget and staff. Affiliates are networked through the Executive Service Corps Affiliative Network . Thanks to the generosity of our donors and our ability to keep our operating costs low through extensive use of volunteers, ESCH is able to offer generous scholarships for its one-on-one management consultation services. Thus, nonprofits with extremely limited resources are still able to participate in professional management consultation services.
The organization is governed by a 12-member Board of Trustees that meets quarterly. A subset of these trustees serves on the executive committee that meets monthly. The executive director is an ex-officio member of, and reports to, the board and is a member of the executive committee. She, the office manager and a part-time development director are the only paid staff. ESCH meets the Better Business Bureau’s “Standards for Charity Accountability” and is in the initial cohort of organizations listed in the Greater Houston Community Foundation’s Donor Edge database. One of our consultants received a 2008 Mayor’s Volunteer Houston Award. The organization pursues standards of excellence within its own operations and has an annual audit in June.
