Professional Background:
Karen spent 25 years with General Electric Company, concluding her career as Business Manager of Customer Services with significant focus on process efficiency and Six Sigma. She began as a buyer in supply chain with GE Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati, Ohio. Later positions were in program management, customer services and international contracts. After joining GE Energy, she managed business operations and conducted specialized training in negotiation skills, contract compliance, and process efficiency. An acquisition brought her to Houston in 2001. Currently she consults with energy companies on process mapping. Karen is a very active volunteer with the Houston Museum of Natural Science. She is Master Docent for Energy and special exhibits and is Volunteer Website Manager serving on the Guild Executive Board. Karen’s BA (Math/History) and MA (Counseling Psychology) are from Virginia Tech. She is a widow with two teenagers.
ESCH Experience: Karen joined ESCH in 2005 and since then has helped several nonprofits in process management and human resources projects. Her clients have included:
- Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance, an organization that promotes woman-owned businesses requested a review of their Human Resources processes. Karen recommended changes to their employee manual and worked with the staff to standardize job descriptions.
- The Women’s Center of Montgomery County provides counseling and assistance to battered women. In response to their request, Karen held sensing sessions with all staff to understand recent employee turnover.
The Bridge Over Troubled Waters provides counseling and assistance to women and families. When two key positions opened at the same time Karen and their staff mapped the financial and grant processes. This allow them to realign hiring job descriptions and streamline grant writing and reporting.
