This is our fifth month of our sixth year of operation. God has been gracious as we continue to see His power, authority and providence all through. The Children have grown and the staff continues to do their best as they serve the little children.

Outstanding achievement of the month include; getting the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development signing of Memorandum of Understanding that commits both parties for the next three years.

School

The school first term came to an end successfully and the children were assessed using different examinations.

We are preparing the Primary Seven children to sit the National Primary leaving examinations from our school.

We have embarked to the process of getting the UNEB sitting Centre number and we believe that it shall be given since all reports from different Inspectors and authorities are favorable.

The committee sat towards the end of the term to deliberate on issues that affect the school and how best the school can serve the children under our care.

Co-curriculum Activities

Abel and Ivan Kuloba participated in the district team at the national Athletics competitions which were organized in Mbale. We took advantage of this to take different classes of children to cheer the competitors and to see for themselves what transpires in such places.

Ms. Pam continues to ensure that the children get the appropriate medical services at the clinic and where things seem not possible she usually refers.

Nabwire Brenda was admitted to St. Martin clinic after getting an acute pneumonia. After a short recovery, it re-occurred but this time spent an overnight at the clinic with the clinic Nurse. Mariam also suffered a bout of malaria and had to spent the night with the Nurse at the clinic.

Naster had a knee problem and was treated at St Martin Clinic, it looks like she may need to see an orthopedic doctor as it seems not to respond to the medication given.

Children visited by relatives

Only Arafat Muniafu was visited in the course of the month under review.

This is yet to be given but all the paper work was done and submitted and we anticipate having it soon.

Farm work

The Rains have prevented any meaning full work; However, we has started digging using a hired Tractor. We hope this shall improve the land and ensure that we have a reasonable harvest from our gardens.

Bududa mudslide victim’s tour

The Children and the staff members organized themselves and collected some of their personal belongings to donate to the Bududa Mudslide victims. A representative team took the donations and delivered them to the District Administration and the Red Cross. The staff also walked a distance of six kilometers to reach the actual site of the tragedy.

New Developments

Water Supply

There are some technical issues we are working out with the National water before we start to install the new water line. Once these are solved, we shall work on the line and be able to have water fulltime on the site.

Power supply

The Service pole for power fell down and we spent three weeks without power. In addition, the poles along the line are weak and I have already requested the Power supplier to replace them for the good of the children’s home and the community.

Solar power

All the major supplies were delivered by the vender, but he told me that there some connection cables that he is waiting for before he can install the panels.

Van

The Van was delivered and we hope to complete all the things that need to be done to put it on the road in the coming month of May. We are yet to get the buyer for the old van.

On behalf of the children and staff, we thank you all for your generosity and support towards making Lulwanda Children’s Home self sustaining.
