June 2009 Report

Introduction

This is the sixth report of the fifth year of operation. God has done great things for us through organizations and individuals like you. We continue to pray for His protection and continued providence particularly at this time of much global financial crunch.

For the month under review a number of brethren from USA Visited the home and brought with them humbling gifts to individual children and the whole home including us the staff. Thank you all

Children

We exist because of them and continue to be the centre and focus of all our activities.   How they have grown and changed is amazing and we continue to thank you our partners in the transformation that is taking place in Uganda.

Health

We have experienced some flue, cough and malaria. It is Peace Adori and Faith Alinga who had to be admitted to the Town Clinic for further management of their ailments. However, they were discharged later and although Faith is much better, Peace is still weak but she will pick up.

Our hearts go to Nana Dyana Solheim and her family for the tragic death of their brother and his wife. May the Good Lord Comfort them during this time of such loss. We continue to pray for them.

Education

As you may already be aware, education is the second most important strategic objective of the home and all effort are being made to improve the quality of the education offering at the home.

Recently a team from the District Education Inspectorate visited the school for a performance audit of the teachers. There is a notable improvement in the teacher performance and definitely our children are better and improving.

Community children

There is continued good working relationship between the community children and the home, and the community children came for the fellowship on the first Saturday of this month.

Social interaction

The children are improving their social interaction and every opportunity is used to enhance such relationships. Our Children participated in the District Activities of the Day of African Child. They have also participated in the mandatory district sports activities for the Primary school. They played football and netball in the junior categories. Kamadi and Ivan in foot ball and Doreen Kibukuna for net ball have advanced to the Sub County level Team for the district competitions

Preparations are also being made for the children to participate in the music festivities being organized by the district.

TGN (The Good Neighbor)

We had a games day when the team from Grace Fellowship visited. The children played, were taught and were given gifts at the end of the day. Some of the gifts given included three mosquito nets per community child thus sharing beyond the child to reaching out even to their families and contributing to reduction in the killer malaria.

Staff

We finally managed to secure some uniforms for some section of the home staff. The Kitchen, Laundry, cleaners and garden staff got white and grey uniforms.

Maama Nusura and Sanyu Harriet have been down with sickness. However at the end of the month they all seemed to have recovered and normal again.

Interns

The Interns continue to participate in the home’s activities. For the period under review, they have made presentations on;

-          HIV/AIDS workplace policy

-          Conflict Management at the workplace

-          Monitoring and evaluation tools

Their input is already felt as they have designed messages that we have developed and displayed around the main hall to remind the children and staff of the best practices as they carryout their daily activities.

Farming

Work at the farm land continues and we continue to work tirelessly to make this land productive and able to produce some food for the children.

Animal husbandry

Our animals are growing and recently we got a donation of funds through which we have already acquired three good breed cows, two of which are in calf and hope they shall provide us with milk which we have been longing  to have for some time now.

School Construction Updates

We are in the final process of constructing the third and final block of rooms for the primary school. We remain with painting, Glass work, electrical and ceiling. We are most optimistic that by the end of July 2009, all the construction shall have been done. We continue to thank all of you for you financial support that has enabled us to complete the Primary school section

Summer visitors

A Team from Rock Mountain Colorado visited and had lunch with the children. They even donated some beanie bears to all the 90 children among other things.

Mr. Rob Marshall the President of Grace International Children’s Foundation led a team from Grace Fellowship Katy Texas and spent 9 days at the children’s home leading and participating in different activities. The Team came with lots of gifts to the children, the staff and the community children.

In addition they donated Bibles and provided funds to purchase one acre of arable land, as well as both traditional and modern musical instruments for the school to participate in the school competition and for the home respectively.

A number of individuals gave some gifts to the children including Ms. Rose and Becky.

Joint School/Home management Committee

We took advantage of the GICF President’s presence to hold a joint committee meeting for both the school and the home. Many issues were discussed and agreed upon in principle as we continue to pray and ask the Lord to lead.

We continue to pray and thank God for you all. Thank you for supporting us in such a big way. We do encourage even others to ensure that they come to see what God is doing in Uganda.

Looking forward to seeing you.
