March 2010 Report

Introduction

There have been many activities going on concurrently, but we thank God who has enabled us to go through them all.

Children

The Children have grown and seems to be okay. We are making effort to ensure that they grow into adults we can all be proud of.

School

The school is going on well and the children shall have holidays for the first term some time in April.

Academics

We are doing all that we can to ensure that our children get the best education at all levels.

More emphasis has been put on those in Primary seven and now Primary Five. Apart for the normal teaching time during the day, the children are now helped to do preps in the evening and during the public holidays. This is meant to ensure that they cover work and be able to complete the syllabus at the end of second term. Once this is done, the children shall have sufficient time to prepare for the national competitive examination. Once they perform well, our school shall have achieved a niche and be able to attract more children.

Co-curricula activities

It is mandatory for the school to participate in all the activities organized by the ministry and indeed we have made the effort to participate with some promising results.

Athletics

Children participated in the inter school athletic competition and four of our children were selected to participate at the district level, the include; Abel, Ivan Kuloba, Doreen Kibukuna and Allen Muhijja.

UNEB centre no.

Our desire was to see our children sitting the national examinations at our school rather than taking them to some where else. We have submitted the necessary application and paid the mandatory inspection fees for the purpose. We are waiting to see what God can do for us.

Teachers

The Teachers are doing their best despite the many challenges that we all experience some times. The only challenge is the losing some of them to government whom seem to have an upper hand in terms of remuneration.

Effort to get the Phonics teacher is on but getting the person of the qualities we need has taken some time. However, I am hopeful that in the holidays of first term we may finally get some one.

School supplies

We have made the effort to provide all that the school needs to function appropriately. However, this has to be balanced between the available resources and the current demands and some urgent needs for the school that have to be met. We have greatly improved the textbooks, and other scholastic materials needed for the proper teaching of the children.

School challenges

The School still has some challenges which are detailed below.

Turn over of teachers

We keep on loosing some of the good teachers whom we had anticipated to be of great values to the school and the home. Many join the government at a higher salary than we currently provide.

There are many teachers on the job market, but it has become a big problem to identify those with the character and the heart to serve. Many come but their they lack those basics that we need to further advance the work.

We do our best to motivate the teacher and ensure that they do for us the best they can offer. However, we need to devise ways through which this can be done in a more sustainable way. In terms of building houses and or providing some transport allowances.

Medical services

Our medical service provision is greatly improved, we still working to ensure that our children get the best. We have experienced some cases of malaria but have managed to handle all of them appropriately and all the children responded well to the treatment.

Availability of medical supplies

We made sure that all the basic medical supplies were available and we are ensuring that they are being used effectively.

License for the clinic

We submitted the necessary application for the renewal of our operating permit and we are optimistic that before the end of April we shall have it.

Working relationship with the district and the nearby health units

There is a significant improvement in the working relationship of the health unit and the district sub hospital and another NGO founded health unit at Bushikori.

Requests have been made to use our clinic to do community children immunization as a means of enriching our reports submitted to the relevant authorities and as required by law. This is one way aimed at serving the community.

Home

God has been faithful and we have managed to cope up very well. The fuel pump prices went up and this pushed much of our consumables up. However, we have made all the effort to ensure that the children are well catered for.

Mothers

Mother Ritah went for her annual leave and other made the effort to bridge the gap when she was away. We continue to make effort to ensure that we support them so that they can offer the best service to our children.

Meals

All the mandatory meals have been offered, regularly and well prepared.

Participation in the home Routines

Apart for those in Primary seven, who have a full schedule for school work, the rest of the children do participate in all the home chores.

Farming

Farming at Namaje has been very hard, this season, because of rains and whenever, the rains recedes, getting a tractor to do the work becomes another hurdle. However, I am personally making effort to see that we raise food from this land for the benefit of the children.

Water supply

We are working with the people concerned to see that this work is done in the month of April.

New Van

we have been looking for an appropriate van but we anticipate to buy it some time in April.
