May 2009 Report

Introduction

God continues to be gracious to us as things seem to be moving on well. Our children are well, the staff and the projects and programs are moving in the right direction.

Children

Our children continue to grow well and many have been transformed into active and assertive children who do every thing with vigor, love and commitment.

Health

We have experienced mild sickness amongst some of them and Nana Dyana has been making all the necessary effort to offer the best medical care for the children and staff in our care.

Social Interaction

Our children continue to bond together as one big family very well. The Good neighbor children are expected in the course of next month. The community children (11) in our school have also bonded together and they seem to be all enjoying the company of one another.

Children visited

Some children were visited by their next of kin. Those who were visited include; Faith Nambuya, Doreen Kibukuna, Anthony Wanzala, Mercy and Naster. It was a good encounter and the children visited were happy and glad to see some people whom they had known before. Also the visitors were very appreciative of the work being done in the children.

School

School began for the second term and the children resumed their regular school schedule. We are optimistic of the evolution of the school staff and their level of commitment and love for their work so far exhibited.

We also got a new Head Teacher Mr. George Massy Wamukota. He is promising and we have great faith in him as he leads the school staff and ensure provision of quality education to our children.

The home has been well recognized for the infrastructure being set up for the education service of the children. It has been highly commended and is regarded as a model school in the area.

Construction

The new (third) classroom block of four rooms is coming up very well and we are optimistic that it shall be ready in the course of the month of June 2009. Much of the orders of the materials and supplies have been made and in the next two to three weeks deliveries are anticipate to be made.

We are grateful to all of you and particularly Mr. and Mrs. Thrasher for their devotion and commitment to see that our primary school is completed.

Nursery School Building

The nursery School started to use their new rooms. Much work had been done on them, what remains is painting and we are hoping for a team that shall be available to do the painting and drawing of children related murals on the Nursery school building

School Management Committee

Despite the busy schedules we have in relation to the Mission teams that make most of the school committee members busy all through, we are glad, members met as it is mandated and deliberated on the development issues of the school.

School Registration

We are working with the district Education office to ensure that our school is fully registered by the ministry. The necessary files have been submitted to the relevant offices in Kampala. We hope to hear from them in the third week of June 2009

Arrival of Container

The container of the school supplies and library books arrived in the country and was received, paid all the taxes and released to the Administrator of the home. All the resources sent were in good order and we are optimistic to start a good user friendly Library for the children. We do thank Mr. Thrasher for this wonderful gift to the children of Uganda. Thank you once again.

Farming

Our effort to raise food from our land continues despite the challenges of heavy rains experienced in the last two month. We continue to open the land and we are optimistic for a better yield in the course of the year.

Animals

Our animals are increasing and we have got in touch with a Veterinary Doctor in charge of the sub county who regularly offers us the necessary technical support so that we can be in position to do professional farming for optimal benefit to the children. And increase the meat requirement for the home

Environment Management

The government support of supplying Pine seedlings has been appreciated and they continue to regularly monitor how the trees are performing in the field. They planted them in the right season and they are most likely to grow well.

Home Registration with ministry

To follow up with the ministry for a tax exemption on our container, was also another good opportunity for us to follow up the issue of renewal registering the home with the Ministry. They have positively responded but much regular follow up is needed to accomplish this task.

Home Staff

The staff continues to evolve and do what is in the best interest of the children. As the administration, we continue to focus them, support them and ensure that they do their responsibility well.

Some staff fell sick and were treated, other lost their dear ones and went for burial. Otherwise we all seem to be doing well now.

New Guards deployed

New guards were deployed after one year of service by the former pair. The Company that supplies us with guards is under out instructions to select guards who neither smoke nor drink and usually these are few in this profession. None the less we thank God that another pair of Guards arrived and they seem to be equally good.

Medical services

Our medical unit continues to serve us very well and we have received the annual registration from the ministry of Health. In the month of June we shall start tracking the ailment/treatment data that shall be captured and fed into the National Health Information System

Repairs and maintenance

We continue to do all the necessary repairs and maintenance work on the entire home and school infrastructures so that the home remains in a good and functional shape. We are also working to get occupation permits as required by the government particularly for the new added structures on the site; Health Unit and school block.

Internship Program

We received 8 Internship students from Mukono and Bugema University. We have already allocated them work to do. They are to be on site for 14 weeks and each week we have given them different assignments to accomplish. They are at the home on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

On Fridays, they are supposed to make presentations of the week’s work to the staff after the afternoon fellowship. They have so far made two presentations on; Counseling of the children and staff, and Gender mainstreaming.

Summer Visitors

In the month under review a combined team from Monument View Bible Church visited the home. They shared with the children a lunch meal after playing with them. The Pastor from Coimbra church from Colorado offered to buy some cows for milk for the children at the home. We are grateful for this generosity and support.

We continue to pray for all of you who shall be coming for journey mercies.
