Activities & Updates

Introduction

This is the twelfth month of our second year. We have seen great things as God continues to transform for good the life of these little once forgotten children of Uganda. We have seen your heart through the support that you continue to offer for the wellbeing of these children. On this journey we have come to believe that we are not alone but have people out there to count on. It is a great blessing and opportunity that our Living God has bestowed on us. Glory to His name

Children

They all growing holistically and it is important for you brethren to starting preparing and scheduling to come and see for your selves in the summer of 2008 what God is doing in our midst.
Apart from care and education we do continue to guide our children in discipline so that in future we have children all of us could be greatly proud of. We continue to instill the discipline of work in them as in everything we do at the home we do it along with them. This has brought a sense of belonging and ownership of the home and all the children seem to be enjoying each and every activity at he home. This has also reduced the level of dependence on the staff for the proper functioning of the home. The children do fully participate in the home activity based on their ability and they have adopted the home routines very well.

Meals

We continue to offer all the necessary meals to all the children. We also do give some exceptional consideration to the sick and the little one without the others having any ill feelings.

Education

The school is moving on and we are working towards making it semi autonomous as per the recommendations of Mbale District Inspector of Schools. The staff have been co-opted into the main stream district education system and have started to benefit from some of the government programs to enhance their performance in class.
On the recommendation of the District School Inspector; they have formalized their structure and the line up is

1. Rebecca - Head Teacher/Class teacher P1
2. Jimmy - Deputy Head Teacher/Class teacher P4
3. Nicolas - Director of Studies
4. Favor - Senior Woman Teacher/ Class teacher Baby class
5. Eva - Class Teacher P2
6. Sylvia - Class teacher Middle and Top class
7. Natalie - Teacher for RE and Phonics
As I write this, the children are doing their annual assessment for promotion to the next class level, based on this they will have to change classes come February 2008. After 7th December, the school will be out for the long Christmas holiday.
Jared our music choir teacher who had gone to Eldoret Community Church (Kenya) came back in the month under review and I have requested him to train some of our children how to play the keyboard, a task he has taken on enthusiastically. I do believe that after three to six month some of our children will be fully knowledgeable about making the key board produce high quality and soothing music to the glory of our God.

Medical

Malaria continues to be the greatest threat to the health of children and staff at the home and the community. We have used the first aid kit where the symptoms have been established to be malaria, and where the first aid has not worked we have taken the children to medical centers in Mbale for proper medical care. Some of our children have been recommended for specialized medical care in relation to eyes, skin and ears the advice and treatment from these specialist has been successful.
Hospice Medical Hospital in Mbale has continued to offer the monthly mandatory medical checkup on all the children.

The Good Neighbor project

The end of month fellowship was postponed to 1st December to coincide with the third birthday for the opening of the home to the children. The children will come with their parents for lunch and they will be given the hygiene kit. We hope that even the President of GICF board Mr. Rob Marshall will endure the jetlag to be around.

Garden Work

The dry season seems to have set in, and much of our garden had been prepared in anticipation for rains but they never came. We have a small patch of cabbages and greens which we have been irrigating. The animals (chickens, turkeys, many goats and 3 cows) are improving and increasing in number. We need to improve the poultry farming to make it more valuable and useful to the home.

Maintenance work

We continue to make all the effort to ensure that the facility remains functional and in good form for the enjoyment of all of us. Even we continue to train the children to be responsible in handling the home resources. We have made effort to replace those which have broken. However, this month we experienced some problems with the power supply and had to overhaul the service cabling and allocate different meters for different facilities on the compound.

Staff Focus of the month of November: Julius Wamboga;
Praise the Lord, My name is Julius, Am married and have 8 children who are all in school for which I thank God. I got saved in 2001 at Mbale Presbyterian Church and my wife got saved in 2002. Since then we have seen God's providence and He has uplifted us to where we now. I thank God for the work he has given me at Lulwanda Children's Home as a Gardener, through which I am now able to take reasonably good care of my family. I with my colleagues at work are blessed for the responsibility that God has given us of bringing up these children in His through showing them good manners, and to love them. I do thank you all for the support that you have continued to offer us and I pledge continued commitment for the good of the children under our care. Praise Him

Child focus of the month of November: Naula Sefuleza (Rhoda)
is 7 years old, born in Buseta village, Pallisa District. She is a total orphan who lost both parents due to HIV/AIDS thus leaving her under the care of her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Veronica Kayendeke. As a peasant living on a very small patch of land that is no longer productive and caring for 12 orphans, it was difficult for Mrs. Kayendeke to sustainably look after such huge family of young and desperate children some of whom were HIV/AIDS positive. Like the rest of the children under her care, she did not have enough to provide for Naula and therefore she was referred to LCH for care and support.

Emerging issues

I am humbled to report that, Colorado Spring Church donated funds that have enabled us to purchase an Isuzu truck to be used to transport the food and other supplies for the children's home. Brethrens thank you for your thoughtfulness and a wonderful gift that you have given the children of Uganda. We continue to pray for you all, that God may continue to bless you and use you in His ministry for the glory of His name.
We need your support to start up our poultry farm so that when you come in summer we may have some eggs and chicken to share with you right from the farm on the children's home.
As we start the new third year, we look forward to your continued support. However, as we grow we need to start focusing on developing things that in the long run will qualitatively contribute to the wellbeing of the children at home so that this work may become self sustaining in its fifth year of existence. This is my appeal and our desire as people at the home.

God's rich blessing as you continue to support us.
