A come- together post Christmas party was held 29 December 2007 for the LCH children and TGN children and all the children had a good time. They had Christian music, drinks and food.
Arrival of the children
The TGN friends were not expecting a second gathering at Lulwanda in one month as they had already met on Dec 1st for the third anniversary celebration of Lulwanda Children's Home. The families were only reminded of today's party the day of, so indeed they arrived a bit late as they could make it and not all at one time. Breakfast was therefore not served.
Welcome speech.
Together with every one around, they were welcomed by teacher Betty and briefed on what was to take place on that day. We called it a come- together post Christmas party for all our lovely children. Questions were asked like; Why do we celebrate Christmas?
How do we celebrate?, What do we eat on Christmas? They all shouted meat, rice, sodas and bananas! It was then that the teacher told them, we are going to eat and afterwards have a dance. They all yelled in Unison "yes, yes" meaning they were ready to dance! LCH children led the group in two praise and worship songs and then the teacher prayed.
Music
Immediately after praying, cool children music was set up for them outside and two were chosen to open the dance. That was Faith Nambuya and her TGN friend. Then everybody joined without fear. This took us up to lunch.
Lunch
Food was prepared for the party and every child got plenty to eat. For this I want to give God the glory, that not much work is done by the adults as all the older LCH children enjoy serving their friends without hesitation. They did the serving very well as they were the host. They have learned hospitality well. After lunch, general cleaning was done by both the host and the visitors and thereafter music was set again for them.
Counseling and guidance
Being a party, there was no counseling and guidance taking place. As people were tired of dancing, they settled down to watch a movie. Sodas were then served and thereafter some children continued dancing up to 5:30pm when a closing prayer was said. All the children were escorted up to the main gate and bid farewell by their friends
End of year Remarks
Since The Good Neighbor Project began in March there are many great things that we have seen, among which is the harmonious relationship that has grown strong each day between the Home and the community.
We believe the community recognizes and is comfortable with our presence and great contribution to the overall wellbeing of the community in which we have become part and parcel.
Growth of a unique culture at the Children's Home has been avoided. Today our children can easily and readily interact with the community children. They take their life at the Children's Home as being a great privilege to be used for the good of their future.
We do thank the GICF Board for their insight and the Sunday school children of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church for the resources and the funds that have made us complete the TGN year successfully.
We also thank them for the relief fund that they sent to the community members to be disbursed through the Bulolelo church in aid for the hailstorm that affected many families' gardens and therefore their livelihood.
We are optimistic that as we begin a new year God wills you will help us to increase the number of the beneficiaries and each of our soon to be 90 children will have a friend from the neighborhood.
Thank you all for the continued support. God's rich blessings and rewards to you all.
